I was asked to offer a prayer
for peace. Please forgive me if I preach
and pray as a Christian, for that is what I am…
Our Sacred Scripture reveals
to us:
“God
is Love” (I Jn 4:16)
“In
this is love, not that we have loved God, but that God has loved us and sent
his Son as expiation for our sins” (I Jn 4:10)
“No
one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (Jn
15:13)
“Who
is my neighbor? … Who showed himself neighbor to the robbers’
victim? The one who treated him with mercy. Go and do likewise.” (Lk 10:29, 36-37)
“So
I say to you: love your enemies, pray
for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father…”
(Matt 5:44-45)
God
and Father of the human family, you have made us in your image and likeness;
you have blessed us with dignity as your adopted sons and daughters.
Help
us to recognize that dignity in those we love and those who do not love
us. Help us to embrace the path of
peace, of reconciliation, of forgiveness, of mercy, of healing.
May
bombs and mortars and rockets cease forever!
In
our lifetime, from Mohandas Gandhi to Martin Luther King to Archbishop Desmond
Tutu and Nelson Mandela to Pope Francis, we have heard (and sadly ignored) the
prophetic words that violence breeds only more violence; it never breeds the
peace for which we long.
Why must differences breed fear, which breeds
bigotry, which breeds hatred and violence?
Why, O Lord, why?
Alle Menschen werden Bruder… When, O Lord,
when??
May
we drop the weapons, drop the ego, drop the self-righteousness, drop the proper
pride, drop everything we clutch so tightly that it keeps us from extending a
hand of reconciliation to those we regard (and who regard us) as enemies.
God
our heavenly Father, make us people of peace!
Make us people of love! Make us
people of healing and reconciliation!
Make us your true children! Now,
O Lord, now!!
Dear Father, I am 69 years old. I have been through the years when my mother and father were registered Republicans and my dear brother was a registered Democrat. I became interested in the 1960 election as my brother took me to the airport to see the candid J.F.K. land, in CA for the Democratic Convention which was held in LA. We lived in Westchester, CA which was about two and a half miles from the airport. I started out being in the front lines but got pushed back by the crowds of people. I raised my hand I was about 14 at the time, and I was blessed by having him shake it. I knew that as a president he would not let me down. And he never did. You can ask anyone who has been in a soldier uniform, even Pope Benedict, how it felt. I believe in right and wrong. I believe in a country who wants the other countries to be free to worship their God in the way that he sees fit. I do not go along with this president. He does not believe as I do that conception is God given. Whereas when he was running for president he said that if his daughter had sex and wasn't married he would take her to an abortionist. As soon as he said that I did not vote for him. And then he says that men can marry men and women can marry women. Now God made Marriage a sacrament. Now I am not saying that a man cannot have a near death experience and that my God would not forgive him after so stupidly following the devils teachings, but one has to look really hard and long at this president. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that he is all for the greatest collapse of this country. Whenever he is in trouble he causes racial relations and all of the people that we do know to be criminals to be welcomed into this country, making the states support tham and their homesteads. The Blessed Mother at Fatima did tell us that if people did not say the rosary and pray for the conversion of Russia......and we could see that the president had something to say to Medieve at that 2012 little thing that he thought that the microphones were off...He said, "tell Mr. Putin that if I win the election....." He speaks out of one side of his mouth, but he is not truthful. Maybe it is because he really did not have a normal childhood or maybe it was all of the drugs....Or maybe it was all of the lies and that is why he won't show his report cards.... Or maybe it was because he was still Barry Soetero and a foreign student and so he would have to pay for the education....Jesus when he came upon this earth, told us to forgive one another but he also told us to if we see our brother or sister doing something wrong. (and that would be in regards to the 10 commandments) we should tell them. and if they don't pay attention, then tell our brother or sister in Christ, to go to tell him. And if he still does not listen to him go and tell the priest so that he may turn his life around to Jesus. But if after that, he still doesn't listen then treat him as a tax collector. Pope Francis I think does not come across in his faith as strong of a leader like St. Francis, Pope John Paul II or Pope Benedict XVI.
